The first Harley-Davidson motorcycles were built by William S. Harley and Arthur and Walter Davidson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the early 1900’s. Most recent Harley-Davidson models feature the classic V-twin engine which is noted for its unmistakable loud growling “potato-potato” sound. The Twin-Cam or “Fathead” version produced since 1999 is the most common engine.
